Witness appeal following Hampton Park fatal hit-run

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have released an image of a man following a fatal hit-run collision in Hampton Park this morning.

The release of the image follows the collision at the intersection of Hallam and Pound roads where it is believed a cyclist was struck by a car on Thursday, 6 January about 4.14am.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and left in what police believe was a red 2010 Holden Cruze sedan.

Sadly, the cyclist, a 58-year-old Hampton Park man, died at the scene.

Enquiries by detectives have revealed the vehicle was stolen from Doncaster on the morning of Wednesday 5 January.

A secondary crime scene has been processed this morning after the stolen vehicle was found burnt out in Glen Waverley at about 5am.

Detectives have released the image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

Any witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage or other information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at crimestoppersvic.com.au
