Berwick is one of the top Australian suburbs for home improvement jobs, tradesperson marketplace hipages has revealed based on the volume of jobs requested by homeowners over the past year.
Hipages connects homeowners with more than 31,000 tradies, with Berwick in the top three suburbs nationally for the highest demand for tradies.
The increase is predicted to reflect a boom in renovations due to coronavirus lockdowns.
Hipages chief customer officer Stuart Tucker said demand for tradies remained high post lockdown and into the new year.
“This is fantastic for our hipages tradie customers who can snap up the job leads from small repairs, cleaning, and removals, to larger renovations and builds,” Mr Tucker said.
“However, our message to homeowners is to list now for work that you’re planning, particularly if you’re in a suburb where demand is high.
“We experience a job being posted by a homeowner every 20 seconds on average, so we’re used to spikes in demand but there are some trades that are more sought after than others right now, so you want to ensure that you’re having discussions early.”
Hipages also revealed the top 10 sought-after trades nationally on its platform over the past 12 months which included handymen, plumbers, electricians, fencers, painters, cleaners, builders, concreters, tilers, and carpenters.
There was a 27 per cent increase in jobs for carpenters and a 25 per cent increase for bricklayers.
The platform experienced a 56 per cent increase in the number of homeowners posting jobs for project managers, followed by a 41 per cent increase for landscape architects, and 29 per cent increase for kitchen designers.
Cleaning also boomed over the past 12 months with a 40 per cent increase in jobs posted.
A high demand for air conditioning is expected in the coming weeks.
“Keeping cool is going to be a top priority for many, so demand for air conditioning is forecast to peak as the mercury climbs,” Mr Tucker said.
“The same goes for irrigation systems and shade sail installation as homeowners look to keep their gardens hydrated and outdoors areas protected, and pest control as the creepy crawlies make their way into our homes.”
