Storm warning for Melbourne’s south-east

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning that severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar at about 3pm.

The thunderstorm started in Melbourne CBD and has been moving towards the southeast.

A tree has fallen at Berwick Village at about 2.52pm and a request for assistance was issued.

Police have closed off Berwick’s Main Street.

A request for assistance has also been issued for flooding and building damage in Berwick.

The storm is forecast to affect Pakenham, Belgrave, Caulfield, Dandenong, Frankston, Glen Waverley, Melton and Werribee, including the area north of Bass and the area north of Pakenham by 3:45 pm.

Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones are likely.

If conditions are dangerous, drivers should safely pull over away from trees, drains, low lying areas, creeks, canals, culverts and floodwater.
