Mini-vaccination clinics are being launched in Narre Warren South to give families more opportunities to get their children aged five to 11 vaccinated.

Narre Warren South Member Gary Maas said the clinics were part of a $4 million grants program to help local doctors and community pharmacies go into schools to deliver the vaccine.

“These local mini-vaccination clinics are making it easier than ever for kids to get their vaccination in a friendly and comforting environment,” Mr Maas said.

“Victoria’s high rate of vaccination is the main reason we’re not locked down, our schools are operating on-site, and our society is open with as few restrictions as possible.

“The State Government will continue to make schools as safe as possible including shade sails for outdoor education, air purifiers, masks, and supporting children’s vaccinations.”

Under the program, more than 150 primary schools state-wide will have mini-vaccination clinics.

Local GP’s and pharmacists will receive up to $6,500 to cover staffing, travel and equipment costs to get out to schools and vaccinate children – with an additional $5,000 clinic establishment fee per school also available, plus additional loadings for specialist schools or small, rural or regional schools.

Narre Warren South locations hosting mini-vaccination clinics include Brentwood Park Primary School, Hampton Park Primary School, Hillsmeade Primary School, Kilberry Valley Primary School, Strathaird Primary School, Coral Park Primary School, River Gum Primary School, Trinity Catholic Primary School, Lilydale Doctors, Chemist Discount Centre Berwick, Peninsula Vaccination Centre Seaford, Unique Medical and St Marks Medical Centre.

River Gum Primary School hosted the first local mini-vaccination clinic on Sunday 6 February, with times and dates currently being locked in with the other listed schools and providers at a local level.

The clinics are solely for students and are not available to the public.

To date, nearly 50 per cent of children aged 5-11 in Victoria have already received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
