Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) is calling for commuters to allow more time for their journeys as they build extra lanes and upgrade intersections on Hallam North and Heatherton Road.
Over the coming months MRPV will be installing stormwater drainage and laying road pavement at side street intersections, before tying the streets into the new, wider road.
From Sunday 27 February, works will commence to make changes to the traffic conditions on Hallam North Road.
MRPV will move traffic onto the western side of the road between Thomas Mitchell Drive and Carmen Crescent to allow their teams to build three new retaining walls on the eastern side of the road, upgrade the current road pavement and construct a new walking and cycling path between Capra Court and Heatherton Road.
MRPV asked drivers to take extra care while travelling through the area.
From Monday 28 February, Carmen Crescent at the Hallam North Road intersection will be closed for up to four weeks and a detour will be in place via Malanie Close and Carolyn Close.
Once reopened, major works on the intersection will be complete.
Vehicles will no longer be able to turn right out of Carmen Crescent and vehicles who need to turn right will be able to make a u-turn at the traffic lights at James Cook Drive.
The footpath along Hallam North Road will also be upgraded.
The current path is approximately two and a half metres wide and once complete will be three metres wide, making it safer for footpath users.
While the path is being expanded, MRPV has closed the footpath from James Cook Drive to Thomas Mitchell Drive until late March, 2022.
Local detours will remain in place during the closure.
The footpath along Hallam North Road from Thomas Mitchell Drive to Heatherton Road will be closed from Monday 28 February.
Local detours will be in place via Thomas Mitchell Drive, Cunningham Drive, John Fawkner Drive and Heatherton Road until mid-April.
