Heatherton Road to open early

The Narre Warren North Road Upgrade project team has announced Heatherton Road eastbound is set to open four weeks ahead of schedule.

“We’ve made great progress on our works to build a new dedicated right turn lane from Heatherton Road to Belgrave-Hallam Road northbound and will be reopening the eastbound lanes from 6am Monday 28 February – four weeks ahead of schedule,” the project team said.

Works will continue around the intersection over the coming weeks and the the new dedicated right turn lane is expected to be open to traffic by the end of March.

More than 100 vehicles turn right at the Heatherton Road intersection during the morning peak period.

A dedicated right turn lane aims to move these vehicles out of the through lanes, allowing traffic to flow more freely westbound towards the Monash Freeway.

To install new asphalt and line marking at the intersection of Belgrave-Hallam and Heatherton roads, the project team will close Heatherton Road in both directions between the intersection and the Heatherton Road Service Lane from 9pm to 6am each night on Monday 28 February and Tuesday 1 March.

Detours will be in place via A’Beckett Road and Memorial Drive.

During these times, drivers will still be able to travel north and southbound through the intersection and turn westbound onto Heatherton Road, with traffic controllers in place.

Drivers have been asked to plan ahead and allow extra travel time for their journeys.
