A rude awakening

Police have seized a firearm, ammunition and drugs after they disturbed a man asleep in his car in Pakenham.

Witnesses alerted police to the suspicious vehicle parked in O’Brien Street and officers woke the driver who was snoozing in the front seat.

Police conducted a search of the man and his car and allegedly located a sawn off .22 caliber bolt action rifle (loaded), ammunition, illicit drugs believed to be methylamphetamine, MDMA, Cannabis and 1-4 Butanediol, a set of knuckle dusters, an iPhone believed to be used in the trafficking of a drug of dependence and a large amount of cash.

Later that day, members from the SD3 Divisional Response Unit (DRU) executed a search warrant at a residential address in Narre Warren South and allegedly seized a quantity of cannabis.

A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with trafficking a drug of dependence and possession of an illegal firearm.

He was remanded in custody to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates Court.
