Woolworths is supporting local junior cricket clubs across Australia by donating healthy smoothie kits to encourage kids to “pick fresh and play fresh”.

Fountain Gate Cricket Club is one of more than 50 clubs to receive a $1000 smoothie kit from the supermarket chain, which includes a blender, Woolworths voucher to purchase fresh food, recipes, cups and straws.

Clubs with a Woolworths Cricket Blast Centre were invited to enter the competition and explain why they wanted to receive the kit.

Club committee member Justin Smith, who submitted the application for Fountain Gate Cricket Club, said he wanted to be able to “promote a healthier option for the club.”

“Above all else it provides the kids and the club with great support,” Mr Smith said.

“It allows our kids to be healthy and promote healthiness and well being in children, which we all know is vital in today’s society.”

Mr Smith said the voucher will allow provide a fresh and healthy alternative to the “pre-packaged food” many of the kids at the club usually eat.

The campaign is part of Woolworths Pick Fresh, Play Fresh initiative which aims to inspire healthy eating habits in Australian kids through sport, helping them play at their best and follow in their heroes’ footsteps.

Australian Women’s cricketer Sophie Molineux has put her support behind the campaign to encourage young Aussies to make healthy choices.

“This is such a great initiative, and it’s something I wish we had when I was going through my junior cricketing years,” Molineux said.

“Cricket clubs play such an important role in shaping a young cricketer’s habits and set them up for a healthy and nourishing life.”
