A car park at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre was at the forefront of a targeted police investigation last week, which saw a Morwell man arrested on drugs charges.
Detectives from the Morwell Divisional Response Unit approached the 42-year-old man in the car park on Overland Drive, Narre Warren about 4pm on Tuesday 22 March.
Upon searching the man , police located approximately 532g of what is believed to be methyl-amphetamine with a street value of approximately $48,000.
He was later charged with trafficking a large commercial quantity of methyl-amphetamine; trafficking a commercial quantity of methyl-amphetamine; possession of a firearm-related item in contravention of Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO); burglary; committing an indictable offence whilst on bail; and contravening conduct condition of bail.
The man was remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 15 June 2022.
The arrest was made in conjunction with a 10-month investigation by the Morwell Divisional Response Unit into the trafficking of commercial quantities of methyl-amphetamine.
“Detectives have worked tirelessly for the best part of a year to track down these alleged offenders and remove hundreds and thousands of dollars’ worth of dangerous drugs from our streets,” said Detective Senior Constable Jake Bargwanna from the Morwell Divisional Response Unit.
“We will continue to do everything in our power to disrupt drug offending and throw perpetrators before a court.”
The Morwell man was the second person arrested in relation to the investigation, after a search warrant in Braeside on the same day resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old man.
The warrant on the Jarrah Drive property saw police seize small quantities of cannabis, unknown pills and 1,4-Butanediol; as well as knuckle dusters, fireworks, flares and $5,312 in cash.
The 35-year-old man was bailed to face Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on 30 June 2022.
