How to vote early this election

The Federal Election is right around the corner and those who are unable to get to the polls on election day can still get in at early voting centres.

Early voting commences on Monday 9 May.

Berwick residents can vote at Akoonah Park Centre and 350-398 Gippsland Hwy at the Cranbourne Homemaker Centre is also available for early voting in the Casey area.

A list of opening hours at the early voting centres can be found on the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website.

Alternatively, an application for a postal vote can be submitted by Wednesday 18 May.

It has been recommended that people who will be overseas during the federal election apply for a postal vote as early as possible.

Completed postal votes can be delivered in person or at Australian embassy’s and consulates overseas listed on the AEC website.

“We encourage you to apply as early as possible to ensure that you receive your voting materials in time,” the AEC said.

“We recommend that you complete and return your ballot papers as soon as possible so your vote can be counted.

“You have only 13 days after the election for your ballot papers to be received by the AEC.”

Telephone voting will be available for those who are blind or low vision.

Legislation was passed in early 2022 to also allow for Covid-19 affected voters to cast a telephone vote up until Wednesday 18 May.

Telephone voting for people with Covid-19 will be an emergency measure for the final three voting days only.

The Federal Election will be held on Saturday 21 May.

Voting is compulsory for Australian citizens aged 18 years of age or older.
