Man arrested after threatening taxi driver with a knife

Police arrested a man in Melton this morning after he held a taxi driver at knife point and demanded he drive him to Hampton Park.

Investigators have been told the driver picked up a male passenger on Church Street about 6.30am on Monday 9 May.

The man allegedly produced a knife and threatened the driver if he didn’t drive him from Northwestern Melton to the Southeastern suburb of Hampton Park – a 90 kilometre journey.

The man got out of the taxi in Oaktree Drive and the taxi driver quickly called police.

A 22-year-old Melton man was arrested nearby a short time later and police seized a knife.

He is currently assisting investigators with their enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist police should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
