There are expected to be major delays on the Monash Freeway in late June, the Department of Transport has warned motorists.
As crews prepare for the opening of all upgraded freeway lanes, multiple outbound lanes will be closed between Warrigal Road and EastLink.
These lanes will be closed from 7pm 17 June to 5am 20 June, and from 7pm 24 June to 5am 27 June.
Outbound ramp closures will also be in place at the Huntingdale Road entry, Blackburn Road entry and Wellington Road entry.
It is advised that motorists avoid using the freeway during peak times, if possible, as significant delays are expected to occur.
These closures will allow crews to finalise asphalting works and will be done on weekends when traffic volumes are lower to reduce the impact on motorists.
Alternative routes for affected motorists include Dandenong Road and the Princes Highway, High Street and High Street Road, Waverley Road, North and Wellington roads, Toorak Road, and the Burwood Highway.
Important sewer works will also take place in the outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway from 8pm 24 June until 5am 27 June. During these works, three outbound lanes will be closed at Burke Road, leaving two lanes open.
The upcoming extension of O’Shea Road, Berwick will provide a connection between Clyde Road and the Beaconsfield Interchange, marking the completion of Stage 2 for the Monash Freeway Upgrade.
The Monash Freeway is an important part of Victoria’s freeway network and is used by around 470,000 motorists each day.
