Melbourne man charged with fatal hit-run

A Melbourne man has been charged over a fatal hit and run in the city’s southeast while allegedly driving a stolen vehicle.

After a year-long investigation, police charged the 26-year-old from Narre Warren with a range of offences including dangerous driving causing death, theft of motor vehicle and criminal damage by fire.

A 58-year-old man was struck and killed by a car while riding a bicycle along Hallam Road in the early hours of 6 January.

Detectives allege the car was stolen at the time of the collision and the driver failed to stop.

A stolen car believed to have been involved in the crash was found burnt out near the crime scene earlier this year.

The man is set to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on 10 January.
