Local cemeteries will receive funding from the State Government for upgrades and maintenance.
An investment of $600,000 will be put to the state’s cemeteries through the 2022-23 Cemetery Grants Program.
Berwick and Harkaway Cemeteries Trust is among 50 cemetery trusts across the state sharing in this round of grants.
The funding makes an important contribution to the cost of cemetery infrastructure, amenities, maintenance, equipment
and training.
State Senator Lee Tarlamis stated: “Berwick and Harkaway Cemeteries Trust plays an important role in our local community – this grant will provide it with an opportunity to get much-needed upgrades.”
Berwick and Harkaway Cemeteries Trust will receive a $4565 grant, with the funding to be used for tree removal.
The grants program provides financial support to help cemeteries – many of which are volunteer-run – continue to
function as peaceful and welcoming places of remembrance for the whole community.
The latest funding round intends to help secure the long-term future of these sites and provide them with the modern facilities expected by the community.
Grant rounds are awarded twice a year, with applications for the current round closing on 31 March.
