Leadership lessons

Berwick MP Brad Battin has spoken to some of his most important constituents about what leadership means to him – primary school pupils.

On Thursday 8 June, he hosted his annual lunch with school leaders from across his electorate, the first since moving from the electorate of Gembrook to Berwick.

The lunch involved representatives from Harkaway Primary School, Berwick Primary School, Beaconsfield Primary School, Hillcrest Christian College, Beaconhills College, St Michael’s Primary School, Haileybury, Rivercrest Christian College and St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar connecting with each other and asking Mr Battin about what leadership means to him.

Enjoying pizzas throughout the event, the students listened intently to Mr Battin discuss some of his favourite leaders, such as Nelson Mandela and Helen Keller and some of his favourite leadership lessons.

“Leadership is learnt,” he said.

“There’s no such thing as a natural leader.”

Mr Battin said one of his main goals was to ensure children were no longer placed in jail, but also said if he could change any other issue, he would end the war in Ukraine and ban dicatatorships.

The event also included an open question and answer session, where the pupils asked him questions such as what was his favourite book and what was his favourite inspirational quote.
