Hampton Park Secondary College celebrated a number of its students recently who had achieved 95 per cent or higher attendance rates so far this year.
On Wednesday 21 June, the community also came together to recognise students who had improved their attendance this year.
Across the school, 205 students had a 100 per cent attendance rate, while 411 students had an attendance rate between 95 and 99 per cent.
Assistant principal Kelly Krieg said there has been a “huge improvement” in attendance rates this year.
“We have a major focus on attendance,” she said.
“We’ve been celebrating the successes of our students regularly.”
Initiatives to encourage high attendance have included highlighting the importance of attendance through its social media platforms, updating the billboards at the front of the school to focus on attendance and capturing testimonials from the students about why they come to school
Year 10 student Leighton said they having consistent attendance helped them build a sense of discipline, responsibility and time management skills, as well as the habit of being punctual.
“Coming to school every day is important for students as it lays the foundation for their academic success and personal growth,” he said.
“Personally, going to school every day gives me the flexibility to do extracurricular activities outside of school freely and I’m able to meet up with friends regularly.
“By being at school, I’ve had the chance to actively engage in lessons, participate in group activities, and ask questions, which enhances my understanding of the subjects being taught.”
