Berwick is the most sought-after town in the country for homebuyers, new data from Proptrack has revealed.

In the past 12 months, Berwick has had the most engagement for properties with 41,860 buyers expressing interest in a home in the area.

This is the most amount of potential buyers of any suburb in the entire country over the last year.

Of the top ten in Australia, nine were in Melbourne. Berwick beat the home-buyer interest for inner-city suburbs such as Kew, Richmond and Brighton.

Sales consultant for First National Berwick, Tara Walters, said the appeal of Berwick was that it had a bit of everything.

“There is so much on offer here, you have quality public and private schools, quality hospitals and care facilities, beautiful leafy streets and a real sense of community,” she said,

“New and old areas catering to lots of different home owners and budgets, while newly constructed apartments are also offering an alternative to downsizers, singles and young buyers.”

Luke Cosgriff is a real estate agent at OBrien Berwick and concurs with all that Berwick has to offer, while also explaining that the town sits within a “golden pocket” in Melbourne housing market.

“I think if you look at house prices today, it’s still affordable because you can buy a house in Berwick anywhere from 700,000 to millions, there is a really good range,” he said.

“In that range you are still within the proximity of some really good government and private schools, you have medical precincts, public transport is there and the freeway access, it ticks the boxes for everybody.”

According to PropTrack, Berwick’s median house price stands at $861,000, just above Melbourne’s current overall median price of $803,000.
