Casey Council has awarded four new contracts to deliver mowing services for our open spaces under a new arrangement designed to achieve better maintenance standards for the council and the community.
Casey Council administrators chair Noelene Duff PSM said the work of council officers to reconfigure the open space maintenance contracts for improved service delivery was appreciated.
“We acknowledge that the scale, size and scope of the former contract model was very large and that, coupled with some economic and environmental challenges, impeded some of the contractors’ ability to deliver services to the standards expected by council and the community,” she said.
“The dissection of a large and complex municipality like Casey for the purposes of open space maintenance required extensive analysis.
“As a result of this thinking, we now look forward to improved performance and high levels of community satisfaction in terms of the maintenance of those public sites into the future.”
Contracts were tendered over a proposed initial four-year term, with an option to extend for a further four years.
Ms Duff said the council had awarded separate contracts for maintaining sports ground surrounds and roadside reserves.
“We’ve appointed a mix of smaller and larger contractors responsible for smaller geographic areas,” she said.
“We believe this will provide good value to ratepayers in the current market and assist council in delivering on the community’s expressed priorities for safe, clean and well-maintained open spaces and places.”
Casey Council would be onboarded after spring, with some adjustments to mowing schedules to be implemented to optimise service levels.
