Casey Council is undergoing an electoral structure review with a preliminary report available and submissions open on Wednesday 1 November.
The Local Government Act 2020 introduced several changes, including that all metropolitan, interface and regional city councils – including Casey Council – must now have single-councillor ward electoral structures.
The review is being conducted by an electoral representation advisory panel appointed by Local Government Minister Melissa Horne.
Throughout 2023–24, 39 Victorian local councils are undergoing electoral structure reviews.
Under the Act, Casey Council must move to a single-councillor ward electoral structure.
The panel’s preliminary report considers the appropriate number of councillors and wards for the council, the location of ward boundaries and ward names.
Casey council currently sits on six wards with a total of 11 councillors.
Public information sessions to explain the review process will be held at noon on Monday 30 October and 6 pm on Tuesday 31 October.
A public hearing will be held following the response submission period for submitters who request to speak.
The Electoral Representation Advisory Panel encourages all Victorians in the councils under review to contribute to the review process and have their say.
People interested in making a response submission to the preliminary report can map the ward boundaries for their proposed electoral structure online using the public submission tool available on the VEC website at vec.vic.gov.au/casey.
The submission will close at 5pm on 22 November.
