Festival lights up Berwick

More than 10,000 people enjoyed a spectacular display of fireworks, live entertainment and rides as part of Diwali Festival celebrations in Berwick on Sunday 5 November.

Organised by The Bright Events and held at Federation University’s Berwick campus, the festival also included kids entertainment and a variety of food stalls and market stalls.

Otherwise known as Dipawali or the ‘Festival of Lights’, Diwali is India’s biggest and most important holiday of the year and important to all Hindus.

The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light which protects them from spiritual darkness.
