This Remembrance Day we can continue to remember our veterans by sharing our memories of loved ones past and honour those who are currently serving today.
For those veterans who have served and for those who are still away from home, I encourage you to acknowledge this Remembrance Day by; supporting our local RSL clubs, attending one of the many Remembrance Day services that will take place around our community, sharing a quiet moment in your personal place, stopping for that moment of one minute’s silence and embrace each other in the knowledge that we will remember.
The symbol of the red poppy helps us to remember those who laid down their lives for our country, the fallen who rest in Flanders’ Fields and the bonds forged between allied nations whilst respecting France as the common battleground. We remember those who have served our country by continuing to wear this symbol as the ‘Flower of Remembrance’ as we share their stories in our community.
The mateship that is borne of adversity by rising to the challenge is ingrained in our Australian culture and is highlighted in the spirit of our service personnel. When we come together on this Remembrance Day, we show our honour and respect as a community as we reflect on their service to our country here and abroad.
Lest we forget.
