Police charges 20-year-old man following low-speed pursuit

Police have charged a 20-year-old learner driver with 25 offences following a low-speed pursuit in Hampton Park on Tuesday 2 January.

The police Air Wing spotted a vehicle allegedly speeding along the Princes Freeway in Pakenham at about 10.35pm.

After guiding members on the ground to the vehicle’s location, officers attempted to intercept the stolen Mazda.

However, the 20-year-old Hampton Park man sped off, with stop sticks then used to successfully puncture two tyres.

The driver failed to give up and slowly continued to flee from police, before finally surrendering on Hallam Road.

After arresting the man, police conducted a search of the vehicle and allegedly located a machete, several knives, a large amount of cannabis, stolen registration plates and fireworks.

He also allegedly tested positive to drugs and was found to be driving by himself on a learner’s permit.

Police charged the man with car theft, dangerous driving while being pursued by police, drug driving, learner driving whilst unaccompanied, trafficking cannabis, five counts of drug possession, weapons possession, fireworks possession and theft.

He was scheduled to face Dandenong Magistrates Court on Wednesday 3 January.
