South Eastern Men’s Discussion groups hosted their third Biennial Celebration Day at the Outlook Community Centre on October 30th.

Men over 50 gathered to celebrate, connect and discuss issues that impact them.

This event was about calling men in and not calling them out. It created a safe place for men to be real, not only to express what’s going on for them, but to learn from the experience of others.

Facilitator Ken McMaster carefully curated a selection of topics and themes, which increased engagement and resonated with the older generation.

“Men’s discussion groups focus on older mens wellbeing and mental health, the chosen topic covered by the guest speaker is very relevant to our age group,” he said.

“The morning session included round table discussions, providing valuable feedback and our guest speaker’s subject was ’Aging Positively’ of interest to us all.”

“The theme of the day was ’connection and friendship. The guest speaker’s subject was selected to reflect the positive choices we all have as we age.

Ken said the highlight of the event was the collective effort and positive attendance

“We would like to offer our thanks to Outlook and staff, and club officer and to all the attendees and guests, who all helped to make the day a great success.”

“37 men attended the third Biennial Celebration Day, commemorating 17 years of support and service to the older men in our communities. These men represented all seven groups in the South east district. They include, Pakenham Day and Night, Beaconsfild, Berwick, Narre Warren, Cranbourne East and Hastings. Five invited guests from the eastern suburbs also attended. The invited guests were the members of the Advisory Committee to all 24 groups in the Metro area. Our plan in the south east is to stage this event at about two year intervals.”
