Teens charged following cigarette burglaries

Four teenagers, three from Cranbourne East, have been charged by Casey’s Crime Investigation detectives after a series of alleged burglaries and robberies in the southeast last week.

A stolen Hyundai Accent sedan had been seen in the vicinity of a number of cigarette burglaries and other offences between 15 and 17 January, with patrolling officers sighting the vehicle entering the Monash Freeway from Eastlink around 1:30am on the 17th.

Subsequently, the Air Wing was called in to follow the vehicle and stop sticks were successfully deployed, causing the car to come to rest at Broad Oak Drive in Cranbourne.

Four people were arrested at the scene, two of them 15-year-old Cranbourne East boys who have been charged with attempted armed robbery, robbery, burglary and aggravated burglary.

The other boy from Cranbourne East, who is 14 years old, was charged with robbery and burglary offences.

A 17-year-old Sandhurst Boy was also charged with attempted armed robbery and burglary offences.

Police seized from the vehicle approximately 920 packets of cigarettes as well as a number of other suspected stolen items.

The boys were also interviewed at the scene of the arrest in relation to the following alleged incidents:

A burglary at Bemersyde Drive, Berwick on 15 January,

A robbery at James Cook Drive, Endeavour Hills on 15 January,

Failing to stop for police at Camms Road, Cranbourne on 16 January ,

Theft from a motor vehicle at Artfield Street in Cranbourne East on 16 January,

A robbery at the South Gippsland Highway in Cranbourne North on 16 January,

Attempted robbery at Ballarto Road in Cranbourne East on 16 January,

A robbery at McMahons Road in Ferntree Gully on 16 January,

A robbery on Thompsons Road in Cranbourne West on 17 January,

A robbery at Warrigal Road in Bentleigh East on 17 January,

And the theft of a motor vehicle on Broad Oak Drive, Cranbourne East, on 17 January.

All those charged will face a children’s court at a later date.
