Mayor emphasises transparency and good governance

Building on his initial statement a few days prior, the City of Casey’s mayor, Stefan Koomen, has vowed to address the public’s needs in light of the upcoming March meeting.

Casey’s Local Laws and the proposed waste transfer station in Hampton Park, according to Koomen, will have a focus on being addressed in the next meeting’s agenda.

“These are the issues that the people have raised, and we want them to know that we’re going to address them,” he said.

“We’re their representatives, so we want to be their voice, and we want them to know that we’re listening – we’re new, but we’re listening.”

Speaking on the upcoming meeting, Koomen said that he remains excited for it, adding that it’s “all about people seeing the work we’re doing and the decisions we’re making”.

“We want it to stay that way, and part of the work that we’re doing as councillors and as a council is making people aware of how councils work.

“It’s also about the role that meetings play and the business that we do and bringing the community with us while we do that,” he said.

Koomen acknowledged the limbo Casey underwent prior to the current council’s election, with the community’s frustration only ever brewing.

“We want to be different, and we’re committed to doing that and doing it the right way,” he said.

“By doing it transparently and with some good governance, we won’t just react to a situation; we want to work as a group and find the best outcome for the community.”

As it stands, with Casey’s meetings held every third Tuesday of every month, the next scheduled gathering is for Tuesday, 18 March.
