On Friday 28 the newly appointed leader of the opposition, Brad Battin, addressed Berwick College and presented the new student leaders with their badges.
Mackenzie Rees, Brayden Brown, Charlee Lancaster and Luke Greenshields were announced as the 2025 college captains.
Brad attended the school himself from years 7-10.
“It’s great to be here at Berwick, obviously this is where it all started for me,” said Brad.
“I was a house captain in primary school, I still have my house captain’s badge.”
Brad’s advice to students was a message of reassurance, as he himself didn’t always have a beeline for politics.
“Some students will have applied for leadership and missed out. Others wouldn’t have applied. And it doesn’t matter either way. Now is your chance to take on skills and build skills from here. Speak to some of the teachers and find out the ways you can improve,” said Brad.”
When asked about his own recently appointed leadership role, Brad said “It’s been great. It’s been tiring… As we speak, it’s 638 days to go to the next election. So that means I’m going to have to work for 638 days to win the trust of not just my electorate, but now the whole state.”
