The City of Casey’s upcoming council meeting on Tuesday, 18 March, is being held online, as confirmed by the release of the next agenda.

The meeting agenda, which came out on Thursday, 13 March, provided no extra detail to the conditions of the meeting.

In the first page of the PDF file, after accessing it on the City of Casey’s website, it states that it is “to be held as a virtual meeting” and will commence at 6pm.

The mayor, Stefan Koomen, has been contacted for comment.

Regarding the details of the agenda, it delves deeper into Casey Community Local Law 2023, with the officer report’s recommendation to be considered by the council.

Pages 4 to 71 were detailed with everything from definitions on terms, animals, building works, land and neighbourhood amenities, council land and roads, and more.

The three other reports were taken from the unfinished topics that were meant to be discussed during the Tuesday, 18 February meeting.

Due to its adjournment caused by the level of disruption from the gallery, it was decided on Tuesday, 11 March, that the road discontinuance at Sofra Road and Bells Road crossing, the 2024-2025 Growing Suburbs Fund, and the 2025 GAIC applications would be discussed on 18 March instead.

Despite the meeting being held online, local Casey resident, Sandy Papps, said that she will still be present at Bunjil Place, even if it is outside.

“We’ll be going to the meeting whether we’re allowed in or not, I mean, it’s people power, I suppose, but people showed up last time since they were upset, and it’s the same,” she said.

While Papps could not confirm the numbers, she is confident that the same amount of people as the February meeting will be present outside Bunjil’s premises, if not more.

When asked about the meeting being moved online, she simply said, “I’m surprised but not at the same time”.

“I’m certain that there will be other people turning out, and if there was that many people in February, it’s difficult to say, but there will definitely be people going,” she said.

This story is developing, and more information will come once it is available.
