After years of expectation for a fateful return, Costco appears to have applied for another permit in the South East – this time in Pakenham.

An application was lodged on Monday 17 March for a “new Costco store” located at 130 Greenhills Road, Pakenham.

This follows a long time of rumors about a renewed bid by Costco for a warehouse in the South East.

In 2023, a permit was approved by Cardinia Shire Council for a Costco in Officer South.

However, the State’s Minister for Planning vetoed the decision as it fell within State Significant Industrial land and the Costco was deemed out of character of the highly protected zoning.

Costco maintained a commitment to a warehouse in the South East after the setback and many different predictions from residents about a new site came and went.

The new site falls within the Pakenham South Employment Precinct which also falls under the same State Significant Industrial land as Officer South.

The application stats the cost of the works as $74 million.

The application seeks to use the site for retail services as well as a service station.
