The Edwin Flack Reserve in Berwick has seen a promise of $1.5 million for a major upgrade to sports facilities from Labor if re-elected this upcoming election.

This election commitment builds on a $2.5 million investment from the City of Casey and is said to benefit thousands of locals, including members of Berwick Little Athletics, Berwick Football Club, Berwick Cricket Club and Casey Tuskers Cricket Club.

Julian Hill, local Federal member for Bruce, said that “community sport is the great connector in Australian life”.

“It brings people from right across the community together and welcomes new people to life in Australia.”

The $3.75 million facility upgrades will include reconstructing the main AFL and cricket oval boundaries, upgrading the drainage and fencing for the main oval, and securing a fit-for-purpose home for the rapidly growing Berwick Little Athletics club by reconfiguring the existing pavilion.

Further upgrades include the construction of a brand new spectator terrace seating on the north of the athletics track and upgrading existing spectator seating with new all-weather shelters.

“Renewing and upgrading facilities at Edwin Flack Reserve will also help to nurture future generations of Australian sporting champions, as every elite athlete started somewhere local,” Hill said.

Works will be undertaken in line with the Edwin Flack Reserve Masterplan and local community consultations.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants and Principles.
