Station on edge

Concerned Beaconsfield residents are calling for immediate action to fix their deteriorating train station, warning that its crumbling condition poses a serious safety risk.

A video circulating on social media has fueled concern, showing a resident pressing on part of the station’s undercover entrance structure, which appeared to rock and move left and right when touched. For locals, this is just one example of broader safety issues, and they say the entire station requires urgent repairs to prevent potential injuries.

“The whole of Beacy needs an upgrade,” one local, who regularly uses the train, said. “This needs to be blocked off before it collapses and hurts someone or, even worse!”

Another elderly resident added: “The station hasn’t changed since I went to school to Paky High via train in the ’70s.”

It is understood that many locals have already reached out to Metro Trains to report these issues but have not received a timely or adequate response, highlighting their ongoing concerns about safety and lack of clear solutions.

A Metro Trains spokesperson said repair works to the porch and entry structure at Beaconsfield Station were completed last Wednesday after reports of the issue.

“We thank passengers for their patience as buses replaced trains between Berwick and Officer Stations.”

According to Metro, the works were completed by 3pm that day, and the shelter is structurally safe, poses no risk to passengers, and is independent of the main station building.
