New closures to Kangan Drive from tonight as Clyde Road upgrade continues

Work to upgrade the Kangan Drive and Clyde Road intersection will ramp up over the next month, as Clyde Road Upgrade project crews work around the clock during the school holidays to finish major construction on the new-look intersection.

To prepare for these works, Clyde Road will be closed overnight between the freeway overpass and Enterprise Avenue from 8pm Friday 5 December until 5am Saturday 6 December.

Kangan Drive will remain closed at Clyde Road until Sunday 26 January. During this time, Kangan Drive will remain open westbound, with only left turns onto Clyde Road open to travel south towards the Princes Freeway.

“As part of the Clyde Road Upgrade, we’re improving the Kangan Drive intersection to make it easier to access hospitals, schools, and businesses,” Big Build Roads Acting Program Director Leigh Crump said.

“The new-look Kangan Drive will support improvements on Sir Gustav Nossal Boulevard and Clyde Road to keep Berwick flowing throughout the day.

“We’ll work around the clock so we can finish work and reopen Kangan Drive as soon as possible.”

Throughout the closure, crews will finish building the new lanes and install new traffic signs, kerbs and medians.

These dates were chosen to coincide with school holidays, with lower traffic volumes minimising delays.

Traffic signals will be turned off at the intersection throughout this period. To keep drivers safe, access to and from Sir Gustav Nossal Boulevard at Clyde Road will be modified to allow only left turns in and out.

Over the Christmas break period, the left turn slip lane from Clyde Road onto Kangan Drive will be reopened, allowing limited access to Kangan Drive.

Crews are also hard at work preparing the Princes Freeway overpass for vital widening works. In early 2026, crews will work overnight to install new bridge beams, which will expand the overpass to 10 lanes.

To facilitate these works, the Princes Freeway will be closed in both directions under Clyde Road on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 December, between 8pm and 5am each night.
