The Akoonah Park Men’s Shed can do many great things, but if there is one thing they do especially well, it is throwing a Christmas party.
The strong group of about 160 members, alongside many supporters, gathered at Akoonah Park on Thursday 11 December to mark the end of another busy year for the Men’s Shed.
The annual Christmas lunch has become a staple for the Akoonah Park Men’s Shed.
President Maury Hall and lunch organiser Lindsay Harding led the proceedings to honour the best efforts of members in 2025 and to thank their closest supporters.
The winner of this year’s President’s Award was David Russell, recognised for his nine years of loyal and dedicated service to the Men’s Shed.
Mr Harding declared that “behind every great man is a great woman” as he presented a special gift to Janet Little, who has been a strong supporter of the work of Treasurer Graeme Williams.
Another special gift went to Ian McKenzie, whose diligence with English from his years as a well-known principal has become critical to the Men’s Shed.
Mr Harding mentioned Mr McKenzie’s new nickname, “Casper,” for his many instances of ghostwriting.
Special thanks went to the many generous supporters, including the Akoonah Park Committee of Management, Community Bank Beaconsfield, Star News Group and Booran Motors, as well as Bunnings Fountain Gate, which has been a longtime supporter, and Warran Opportunity Shop, which continued to make significant donations this year.
Dignitaries included Berwick MP Brad Battin, Narre Warren North MP Belinda Wilson and La Trobe MP Jason Wood, who were also thanked for their support.
Bruce MP Julian Hill, Cardinia Mayor Brett Owen, Casey Mayor Stefan Koomen and Casey councillor Scott Dowling sent their apologies.
