Dowler delight: Casey go 1-0

Casey is off to a flying start in the VFLW, defeating Port Melbourne on Saturday in the season opener at Casey Fields.

It was a tight encounter in the opening term, with neither the Borough nor the Demons hitting the scoreboard until the 17th minute mark, when Port Melbourne’s Isabella Stutt converted the game’s first goal.

The Borough kicked away in the second term, keeping the Dees goal less in the first half and heading into the main break with a 3.1 to 0.3 buffer.

The two teams went goal for goal in the third stanza, before Casey’s Alison Dowler kicked truly on the cusp of the final change to bring the Demons within 10-points.

The Dowler goal was an evident momentum shifter, as the Casey outfit held the Borough scoreless in the final term and rattled home two majors itself.

Meave Chaplin’s second handed the home side the lead, before Dowler’s second put the icing on the cake.

After a slow start of the blocks, the Demons started its season in style, with a 5.5 (35) to 4.1 (25) victory.

The Demons will take on the Darebin Falcons this Saturday at Casey Fields. The match will also be streamed on both Fox Footy and Kayo from 1pm.
