It’s some season Kurt Mutimer is having.
On Saturday the Narre Warren star gathered an incredible 36 disposals, 10 clearances and kicked five goals.
Through that performance – and his season averages of 38.8 disposals and two goals per game – Mutimer is now the pilot in a series of Top 10’s
Over the next few weeks, Tyler will be taking a look at the best seasons from individuals to date.
Of Mutimer’s 11 games this season, one game had to be left out – this game was in round 8, where the ball-winner had 37 disposals, six clearances and nine inside 50’s… quite frankly, we don’t know how Shane Dwyer justified his selection the following Thursday.
So here are Kurt Mutimer’s best 10 games this season…
10. Round 11 v Monbulk – 29 disposals, eight clearances, three i50s, one goal: It took a long time tossing up between this game and the Upwey-Tecoma game to leave out, because come on, Kurt… 29 disposals? Being against a contender scraped this one over the line, as well as giving it to a heckler after converting a set shot.
9. Round 3 v Wandin – 39 disposals, nine clearances, nine i50s, 10 marks: 39 possessions is certainly a lot of the footy, particularly in such an important game against Wandin. But he supposedly went at 56 per cent efficiency, which is why this match rolls in at nine.
8. Round 10 v Pakenham – 32 disposals, one clearance, five i50s, two goals: After attending this game, we are fully aware that one clearance is a major typo in the data system. But as the saying goes: numbers don’t lie, people do. So, this big game finds itself in eighth.
7. Round 6 v Woori Yallock – 44 disposals, 12 marks, five clearances, 10 i50s, four tackles: If they weren’t already, this is where the games start to get really silly. Mutimer did it all this day and his power running was in particular telling. Very little contested footy and that was because the Tigers couldn’t go with him. No snags, but he disposed of the footy at a slick 81 per cent.
6. Round 5 v Mt Evelyn – 33 disposals, 10 inside 50s, four goals: Stiff to be at six, but the next five are simply nasty performances. No Narre Warren player had a stinker on this day, but it’s hard to deny a stat sheet like this one. He channeled his inner Kevin Bartlett and only dished off five handballs.
5. Round 2 v Monbulk – 45 disposals, 15 clearances, 25 contested possessions, one goal: In what was probably the last true test for the Pies, Mutimer was sensational. Usually demolishing sides by outworking his opponent on the spread, he did it on the inside this day.
4. Round 1 v Pakenham – 43 disposals, 12 clearances, 13 i50s, five tackles, two goals: Sensing the occasion of Pakenham, round 1, footy is back and it’s under lights – Mutimer took the micky. He can show up late to league vote count, he won’t miss much… K. Mutimer: three votes.
3. Round 12 v Wandin – 36 disposals, 10 clearances, seven i50s, five goals: It’s wild to believe he could’ve been stitched up with this stat sheet, but after watching this game… 36 seems a little low. He was everywhere, it was ugly for Wandin.
2. Round 9 v Officer – 51 disposals, 12 clearances, nine i50s, six tackles, one goal: His first half-century of the season in the thrashing win over Officer. 198 ranking points were recorded in this performance, but something clearly wasn’t impressive enough for the coaches… he was named sixth best on.
1. Round 7 v Olinda Ferny Creek – 35 disposals, 15 clearances, nine marks, six goals: Video game numbers. Mutimer has made his own player profile and is playing in career mode on AFL Premiership 2007. No wonder he had his ‘worst’ game for the year the week after, he was still recovering from leather poisoning.
