Leguier fires great round of 41 points

DEEP CREEK GOLF

A massive rain-band struck Pakenham on Friday afternoon but that couldn’t stop a brave army of golfers from lining up for Saturday’s stableford competition at Deep Creek Golf Club.

The weather has really made things difficult for course superintendent Rick McHugh and his ground-staff, but restricting traffic through the winter months has at least kept the fairways in decent shape and ready to benefit from any spring sun that soon may eventuate.

Saturday’s competition turned into a procession for Bodhi Leguier (39), who put his healthy handicap to good use to score 41 points and secure a four-shot victory.

Maddison Selleck (38) also played beautifully, breaking handicap with 37 points to finish runner up.

Best of the chasing pack consisted of Dean Jones and Geoff Percival on 36 points, Leon Mateariki with 35, and Glenn Rees, Rob McCrae and Levi Sua on 34 points with those players all winning balls down the line.

Heath Barclay (8) has been one of the most consistent golfers at Deep Creek over the last month and he continued that impressive form by scoring 39 points to win Monday’s stableford event.

Barclay finished A Grade with a one-stroke advantage over ever-green Mick Boyd (16), who scored 38 points for the equal second-best round of the day.

Tom McDermott (25) won B Grade with 38 points, one clear of Michael Banger (27) on 37.

Down the lines went to David McMahon, Les Jones and Levi Sua on 36 points, and John Roberts and Tom Reid with 35.

Nearest the pins went to, 2nd: Rob Nobelius (2.50m) and 16th: Harry Bolotin (1.04m).

And Wednesday’s stableford competition went all the way down to the wire with Willie Carmichael (27) scoring 36 points to edge out John Curtin (19) via a countback.

Down the lines went to Royce Thompson and John Wilson with 35 points, and to Ron Parsons 34, David McMahon 32 and Chris Dalton 31.

The SuperComp Front 9 winner was John Wilson with 18 points.

Nearest the pins went to, 2nd: Royce Thompson (6.45m) and 16th: John Wilson (5m).

Wednesday and Thursday this week are Medal Days, while Saturday’s competition will be played in a Par format.
