Piccolo primed for Nationals

Pakenham Little Athletics is extremely proud of every athlete that calls Toomuc Reserve home but one youngster in particular gave the club a lot to be happy about on the weekend.

Fresh off a bumper haul of gold medals at the Regional Track and Field Championships at Casey Fields last week, Liam Piccolo took his exciting set of skills to the big stage.

Piccolo, and under-15 athlete at Pakenham, overcame a busy schedule to qualify for the 200-metre hurdles at the National Athletics Championships in Brisbane in April.

Piccolo spent all weekend at Lakeside Stadium putting all he had into qualifying.

He took part in discus, long jump, javelin, steeplechase and eventually jumped his way into nationals qualifying with a hurdle time of 28.61 seconds.

The Pakenham Athletics Club would like to congratulate Liam on his outstanding performance on the weekend and wish him well for the big occasion in Brisbane.

Piccolo’s Performances

Under16 discus 36.65m

Under16 long jump 5.34m

Steeplechase 2000m 6:58.67sec
