Cora Lynn will become the first club to play 100 games in the recently-formed West Gippsland Football Netball Competition (WGFNC) when the Cobras host Dalyston on Saturday.

The ability to engage itself in lengthy finals campaigns has seen the Cobras play more football than any other club since the inaugural season of the WGFNC in 2017.

The Cobras have played a major role in all four finals series that have been played, chalking up a remarkable 12 finals across 2017 (4 finals), 2018 (2), 2019 (4) and 2022 (2).

The Covid pandemic wiped football off the map in 2020, while just 11 games were played in 2021 before a halt was called to the season.

To put things into context; only 16 weekends of finals football have been played in the WGFNC and Cora Lynn has been involved in 12!

The Cobras have endured the highs and lows of finals football in equal doses, winning six and losing six of their 12 encounters.

The Cobras have won 69 of their 99 outings in the WGFNC, and will end with an even 70-percent winning ration from their first 100 games if they can roll the Magpies on Saturday.

Not surprisingly the next club to reach 100 games will be Phillip Island, who runs out for game 98 in the WGFNC when it heads to Kooweerup this week.

The Bulldogs have played in 10 finals, and have won more finals than any other club with seven wins including back-to-back grand final victories in 2018-19.

Inverloch-Kongwak, Nar Nar Goon and Kooweerup will hit the 100-game mark on the same day in round 12 this season, having played 92 games heading into this week’s round of matches.

Dalyston (88) is next best, having played finals football in 2017, while Garfield, Bunyip, Kilcunda-Bass and Korumburra-Bena (87) will reach 100 games in round 17 – with none of those four clubs having played finals in the WGFNC to this point in time.

Tooradin-Dalmore (56) and Warragul Industrials (54) only joined the competition in 2019.

Phillip Island has the best winning strike-rate, being successful at a rate of 78.35-percent: winning 76 of its 97 games.

Tooradin-Dalmore (43 from 56 – 76.79-perecent) is next best, while Inverloch-Kongwak wins three in every four games having triumphed in 69 of its 92 outings.
