KOOWEERUP BOWLS

Kooweerup has stormed into the Division 8 grand final with a crushing 75-37 win over Rosebud Country Club on Saturday.

From the outset Kooweerup looked as if it was there to well-and-truly play, despite going down on one rink.

A flying 12-0 start over the first six ends was the foundation for a very impressive 31-7 win for Steven Jenkins, Ian Richardson, Jimi Watts and Jim Jenkins.

Despite one Kooweerup rink having both Club Champions, a previous Club Champion, and a birthday boy in the mix, a slow start of 4-14 after 10 ends by Brett Condron, Peter Butera, Bec Watts and Daniel Price would prove too much to overcome, losing 15-20.

In probably the best performance for the season Wayne Stevens, Rob Matthews, Rex Alexander and Cam Davey ’gelled’ really well to win 29-10.

The next round of the Friday Triples competition was played on 16 February.

The winners with 36 points were Peter Bott (Pakenham), Dennis Throup and Michael Hahn (Phillip Island).

The runner up team was Ned Courtin (Pakenham), Tina Courtin (Carrum) and Ken Clifton (Pakenham) on 35 points and 16 shots up.

Best one-game winners were in the first game with Vince Bevilacqua, Lindsay Stephenson and Lius Aguilar (Pakenham) winning with 18 points.

The second game went to Trevor Kitchin, Ken White (Longwarry) and Noel Speight (Kooweerup) also with 18 pts.

Most touches were seven and this was achieved by Graham Woolstencroft (Longwarry).

Kooweerup’s two Club Champions, Brett Condron and Bec Watts, travelled with a strong support team to play in the MPBR events.

First up was Bec who drew last year’s winner from Karingal.

Being Bec’s first year she was not expected to win but did gain some valuable experience.

However, from 4-19 down to a final score of 11-26 was certainly not a disgrace.

Brett was drawn to play Dromana and after an even start slowly got away for a 25-14 win.

So, we have another day out somewhere next Sunday.

Well done to both players who represented the small Kooweerup club in a professional manner.
