GARFIELD GOLF
Saturday was Monthly Medal Day at Garfield Golf Club which started out with gusting winds and very cold temperatures but the day remained relatively dry.
A field of 100 took to the course where a final score of nett 76 to a countback was good enough to finish in the money.
Best in for the day was Chris Davies with a great round of 76/nett 67 winning by a countback from Jordan Downes who scored 98/nett 67.
Steve Kohut Jnr also had a great round winning the A Grade scratch best with his 74 whilst Brian Seers had the best B Grade scratch by a countback with his 86.
Mick Jusic won the C Grade scratch with his 84 and Greg Nicholls won the D Grade scratch with his round of 90.
Both Dylan Skinner and Dave Lawler had a pair of birdies on par threes for their round.
Another good-sized field of 108 punters turned out on Thursday for a game of stableford with a final countback round of 33 points being the number to finish in the money.
Best in for the day with a great round was Greg Macklin with his 77/nett 41 points taking out the A Grade event.
One point further back and winning the B Grade event was Tom Fowler with his 84/nett 40 points. Stuart Kent, enjoying a great form run, won the C Grade event by a countback from Nick Gaal with a total of 90/nett 36 points.
Andrew Went had the day’s best scratch round with a very nice 75/nett 37 points.
Heath Barclay, whom is regular in this column, had a round of 78/nett 36 points, while Ray James also got amongst the best rounds with his total of 76/nett 35 points.
Frank Hyett also had a nice round of 76/nett 35 points.
A total of 13 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 8th, 11th and 13th each giving up three each of those.
On Monday a good field of 68 turned up with a final countback total of 35 points being the number to finish in the money.
Rob Nobelius was the star winning the A Grade event with the day’s best round of 76/nett 42 points. Gavin De Jager won the B Grade event with his total of 89nett 38 points.
Harry Elyasie, now down to a mark of just one, had the day’s best scratch round with a brilliant score of 68/nett 38 points.
Darren Stanton, yet another golfer having a good run, had a score of 75/nett 37 points which also included a pair of birdies on the par threes.
This was also achieved by Steve Wallace and Darren Grayson.
Andrew Went, having a great consistent week, also got amongst the best rounds with a total of 74/nett 37 points.
This Thursday is a shot-gun start at 9am which is to be followed by a club general meeting with a BBQ lunch supplied by the club for members to enjoy.
Saturday is a Single Par event.
Note: The rainfall total for May came in at 25mm compared to 36mm last year and 75mm for 2023.
