Kangaroos enjoy breakout games from talented youngsters

The Officer Football Club wasn’t the only thing having a breakthrough on the weekend as promising young guns Brodie Snooks and Diesel De Santis tore it up for the Kangaroos.

Snooks had a breakout performance in the backline, notching 40 disposals and six marks in the 99-80 win over third-placed Woori Yallock.

This comes after recording 31 possessions and a goal last week against Upwey Tecoma.

The former Gippsland Power player was instrumental to Officer launching out of the back and displayed impressive decision making for a young player.

“We played Snooks halfback early, we threw him to the wing and we spoke about a few positioning things and accountability,” Kangaroos playing coach Nathan Allen said of the versatility of Snooks.

“Then we threw him back and he’s implemented it all over the last two weeks.

“He went to another level (on Saturday).”

Since breaking back into the senior side in round 10, De Santis has kicked five goals in three games.

The talented and versatile weapon has been a revelation for Allen.

“Diesel played a lot of his younger footy on the ball but when you come up to seniors you want to look after them a little bit and we played him on the wing,” he said of how the team incorporated De Santis early.

“We put him there because he’d be comfortable there but it got to a point where we weren’t winning and it was time to try and ignite something.

“Young Diesel, he’s just so clean and classy on the ball, he just finds space where there isn’t.

“To add him in there with myself and Ash and Quachy, it’s just given us another avenue out of there.”
