Seagulls still undefeated

Two teams remain five-from-five after round five of the Casey Cardinia Cricket Association A Grade competition.

Tooradin is sitting atop the ladder, boosted by a strong performance in a victory over Emerald.

The Seagulls bowled well, holding the Bombers to 6/96 through nearly 32 overs.

However, a moment of madness saw Sam Booth caught off the bowling of Liam Simpson on the last ball of Simpson’s spell.

Cody Mannix then went ballistic, claiming a ridiculous hat-trick that saw him bowl the last two bats to knock over Emerald for 96.

Tooradin recorded four wickets in four balls, inspiring the run chase at Rutter Park.

Aaron Avery raised the bat with an unbeaten score of 55 and the Seagulls were patient, cruising to 5/100 off 25 overs to bag victory.

Avery has piled on 218 runs in his last two knocks batting at number three.

Merinda Park is also unbeaten as the Cobras enjoyed a home triumph against Kooweerup.

After the Demons decided to take to the crease, a deep Merinda Park bowling attack helped keep the runs low and break partnerships.

Robert Maskiell (22) was the top scorer in the top order, while Matt Davey (40 not out) provided a super handy contribution to the tail.

Kooweerup managed to bat out the full 40 overs, reaching 9/144.

Jordan King (3/18) did the most damage with the ball for the Cobras, while Bevin Corneille (2/33) was busy as well.

King and Corneille turned around and opened the batting, before Corneille (17) was dismissed by Indiana Boswell.

King continued to bat well, hitting five fours on his way to 41 before being bowled by Steve Dillon.

At that stage, Merinda Park was 3/83 after Cambell Bryan (15) had departed earlier.

Ashley Slater (23) and Sasindu Perera (21) put victory in sight, with skipper Leigh Paterson and Tyson Bertrand guiding the Cobras home to 5/145 off 36.2 overs.

Pakenham Upper/Toomuc got bragging rights over local rivals Pakenham with a 76-run win.

At Toomuc Reserve, the Yabbies opted to bat first and opener Prabath Kobbekaduwa set the tone with a fantastic score of 74.

Brian Kulasena (35), Raja Sohail (34) and Lachlan De Zilwa (28) all chipped in to aid their side to 8/219.

Fresh off his Dowling Shield selection Jake Webster bagged three wickets for the Lions, while Jackson Myers and Nicholas Sadler both claimed two.

Pakenham Upper/Toomuc made quick work of Pakenham’s batting lineup, bowling out the Lions for 146.

Kulasena (3/21) was effective in the later overs with Ryan Yeates and Sohail both notching two poles each.

Carlisle Park made it three on the trot by defeating Nar Nar Goon on the road by seven wickets.

The Marygoons struggled with the bat after choosing to go to the crease as wickets began to fall.

Dimantha Fernando (32) offered resistance at the top and skipper Troy Ferguson (28) was brave before being run out.

Ketan Bakshi (45) came close to a half century but was the only other bat in double figures, seeing the hosts get rolled for 145.

Adam Hollingworth continued his excellent form as the league-leading wicket taker took 3/24 off eight overs.

Adam Hassan, Jaan Balasuriya and David Nutting all posted two scalps each.

Captain Jarrod Armitage stood up to the plate in the chase, as he patiently made his way to raising the bat, reaching 62 before being caught off the bowling of Nick Mueller.

Ethan Davies (35) added production at number three before Tanvir Singh (23 not out) hit the winning runs for the Vikings at 3/147.

Cardinia bounced back after an outright loss last week as the Bulls pushed past winless Clyde.

Steven Russell (45) was valiant for the Cougars in the first innings at Gunton Oval, but Blake Russell (23) was the only other bat to score more than 15.

As a result, Clyde was knocked over for 144 with Sahin Ayres nabbing three poles.

Ryan Little and Raj Khatusuria also took two each.

In the chase, solid scores from Brandon Mackie (20), Bradley Reiner (33), Justin Berry (32) and Trent Wheller (23 not out) saw Cardinia reach the total after just over 33 overs at 5/146.

Sheik Aslam did his best for the Cougars as he posted 3/24 off six overs in defeat.

The competition switches back to two-day matches barring any weather in round six.

Cardinia stays at home against Merinda Park, Pakenham Upper/Toomuc will travel to face Kooweerup, Tooradin hosts Pakenham, Emerald visits Carlisle Park and Nar Nar Goon welcomes Clyde to town.
