Tooradin primed for repeat

The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to both tiers of the Casey Cardinia Cricket Association (CCCA) Kookaburra Cup T20 competition.

The Premier Division is down to its final four with Pakenham, Clyde, Tooradin and Kooweerup to battle it out for the cup.

Tooradin comes in as defending champs and seems well positioned to repeat after a commanding 3-0 run in Pool A.

The Seagulls dominated their opening two wins against Clyde and Cardinia and comfortably got past Devon Meadows to round out the home-and-away fixtures unbeaten.

Tyler Evans as captain has been marvellous, being 10th in total runs and fourth for wickets taken.

Clyde’s Tristan Walton leads all wicket takers with six in three games at an average of 8.5.

Tooradin faces Pakenham in the semi-final, and the Lions have had an up-and-down campaign to date in Pool B.

Pakenham got off on the right note with a five wicket victory over Upper Beaconsfield, followed by a resounding defeat at the hands of Kooweerup.

Finally, a strong win against Officer punched the Lions’ ticket to the postseason.

Clyde came through in the clutch to knock off Cardinia and jump into the finals.

The Cougars split their opening two games, making the matchup with the Bulls as significant.

Clyde smashed its way to a strong innings of 5/198 and just avoided the Bulls chasing the total, finishing at 9/194.

Kooweerup has looked extremely professional through three Pool B games, bagging massive results in a trio of wins.

These victories included bowling Officer out for 41 and holding Upper Beaconsfield to 9/91.

The semi-final fixture sees Tooradin host Pakenham at Rutter Park and Clyde travel to Kooweerup on 20 January.

In District, one home-and-away season matchup awaits to determine who appears in the grand final.

Carlisle Park has one foot in the grand final and will just need to avoid a massive collapse against Emerald to qualify.

The Vikings posted a convincing nine-wicket triumph over Nar Nar Goon in round one as Jacob Hinds finished on 99 not out before defeating Pakenham Upper/Toomuc by six wickets.

Ethan Davies took five wickets in that win, while Hinds had his say again with 57 in the eventual successful chase.

Merinda Park and Pakenham Upper/Toomuc will go head-to-head for the other spot in the big dance.

The Yabbies dropped their first game to Carlisle Park before notching a five-wicket victory against Emerald.

As for the Cobras, they saw out a six-wicket triumph against the Bombers in round one and stumbled in a round three two-run defeat to Nar Nar Goon following their bye.

Merinda Park was chasing just 135 for victory but fell short due to a middle order collapse.

Hinds’ total of 156 runs leads the batting while Cobras star Jake Cronin is just behind him in second with 113 runs.

Davies’ five-fa has him atop the bowling figures while Emerald’s Jack Raukola and Lawson Cocks also both have five wickets.

The final District round will be played on 20 January, where Carlisle Park hosts Emerald at Hunt Club Oval and Pakenham Upper/Toomuc visits Merinda Park.
