That’s quite some brew

ALMOST $4000 was raised for the Cancer Council when about 60 women from Berwick and surrounds met over a cup of tea last week.
Berwick resident and cancer survivor Kay Rankin held her fifth Cancer Council Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on Friday in a successful bid to raise more than the whopping $3000 she raised for the cause last year.
The event featured a raffle, door prizes and heaps of gorgeous sale items including giftware, fashion accessories, homewares and an exclusive range of greeting cards.
Guests enjoyed a cup of tea, a bite to eat, and socialise while raising money for the Cancer Council.
“I was so pleased with the support I received from my friends,” she said.
“We had a great day.”
Ms Rankin said she felt proud to support the Cancer Council, having been diagnosed three times with cancer in the 1980s and 1990s.
“I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 1984, the endometrial cancer in 1991 and in 1997 I had had secondary cancer of the lymph system,” Ms Rankin said.
“The sad part about it is that I discovered I carry a gene and I have passed it onto two of my children – one has already been diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer. But it’s good to know we raised a lot of money for the Cancer Council which not only goes to research but support the patients of a whole gamut of cancers.”
