IT WAS Australian television’s night of nights on Sunday and up for nomination was former Narre Warren resident Pippa Black.
The young starlet, who plays Elle Robinson on iconic Australian soapie Neighbours, was among the four nominations for most popular new female talent.
She didn’t win the gong, being pipped by Home and Away actress Jodi Gordon, but she certainly cut a glamorous figure on the red carpet and had her local fanbase glued to their sets.
The former school vice-captain at Beaconhills Christian College grew up in Pakenham and lived in the Narre Warren area before landing the part on the show.
Ms Black still has strong ties to the area and recently visited her former school in Pakenham and is now an ambassador for the Narre Warren Lighthouse Foundation.
This week marks her first year with the Ramsay Street gang and she said 2005 had certainly been ‘her year’.
On Sunday, Ms Black attended the Logies with the Channel 10 ‘crowd’ and she said her younger brother, Tom, was extremely disappointed that he did not get an invite.
Instead, her mother hosted a Logies night in her Pakenham lounge room on Sunday with family and friends coming together to enjoy some champagne and celebration.
Her father was also extremely proud of his daughter and was also fixed to the screen to watch her first Logies appearance.
Ms Black said being part of the glitz and glamour of the awards was another highlight in an already fantastic year and she certainly got plenty of attention on the red carpet in her stunning European-inspired peach gown by La Violette, of Jane Hill.
Ms Black said she had been researching her Logies gown since the start of the year and had wanted something classic and classy and did not want to attract attention for the wrong reasons.
“I did not want a big split up the leg or anything like that.
“I was not out to attract attention that way,” she said.
The glamorous twenty-something attended numerous dress fittings in the past month to complete her haute couture gown.
Prior to the awards ceremony, Ms Black told the News she was delighted to have been nominated.
She said she was equally excited about attending the biggest night in Australian television’s calendar.
“It is the event of the year. It is big stuff.
“It is one glamorous and glitzy night, and to be nominated and then shortlisted – and then to be named in the top four when there was so much new talent – was just amazing,” she said.
