JUNIOR soccer fans took to the field recently when they competed in their very own Mini World Cup tournament.
Organised by local ANZ bank branches, the community event saw three teams from Dandenong City, Berwick and Hampton Park compete for the ‘World Cup’ trophy.
The inaugural tournament was organised by the Endeavour Hills, Fountain Gate and Hampton Park bank branches, with the final coming down to a thrilling penalty shoot-out between Berwick and Dandenong City.
Extra time was called in the final when Berwick and Dandenong City failed to score.
The penalty shoot-out followed, with Berwick claiming victory with a final score of 4-3.
ANZ Business development manager Emilio Marino, of the Hampton Park branch, said the day had been a great opportunity for the branches to get involved with the local community.
The tournament was held at Fox Road in Narre Warren North and Mr Marino said players and parents had enjoyed an endless supply of sausages and bread and all players had received an ANZ Soccer Ball moneybox and a show bag. The winning team was also awarded Dandenong Cup trophies, and a best player award was also given.
Mr Marino said a great day was had by all.
