MORE than 150 job hopefuls flocked to Cranbourne last week in a bid to become the cream of Victoria’s doughnut makers.
American doughnut chain Krispy Kreme kicked off three days of interviews on Thursday and was on the lookout for staff for the chain’s new Narre Warren store.
The 24-hour outlet will be the first of its kind in Victoria and the company has been deluged with applications, more than 900 prospective employees wanting to work for Krispy Kreme.
Last week all candidates were taken through a recruitment process, during six sessions spread over three days.
The interviews took place at Cranbourne’s new multimillion-dollar sports facility Casey Fields with all in attendance getting to taste Krispy Kreme’s original glazed doughnuts.
Human Resources manager Michelle Filo flew down from the company’s Australian head office in Sydney to run the recruitment drive.
Ms Filo said it had been great to receive close to 1000 applications and added that the company always received an overwhelming response when they advertised positions.
She said two new stores were opening in New South Wales and they had received close to 800 applications for 20 positions.
Ms Filo said the company would be culling the number of candidates throughout the interview process with 110 positions available for the Narre Warren store and Dandenong factory and support office.
“We always have an overwhelming response and we try to ensure that everyone has a fair and objective interview process,” she said.
Job hopefuls were shown a short video that highlighted the company’s history and how they had broken into the Australian market in 2003.
The footage showed doughnut lovers who had flown down from Queensland and driven from Melbourne for the opening of the first Australian store in Sydney.
The video also showed people lining up and camping for hours to be the first people to get their mouths around a doughnut on opening day.
Similar scenes are expected when the Fountain Gate store opens at 6.30am on Thursday, 22 June, with entertainment, prizes and giveaways starting the night before at 6pm.
