JESSICA Wilson has become a new person since joining the Narre Warren Cub Scouts three years ago.
Once shy, the 11-year-old Berwick girl has really come out of her shell, making new friends and completing countless badges.
Last Tuesday, the grade five student at Berwick Lodge Primary School was presented with a Grey Wolf, the highest award in cub scouts.
The award followed three years of hard work and dedication. Jessica is the first person in her pack and the second person in the entire Narre Warren Unit to receive the award.
Jessica said the best part of being a cub was earning badges and she has achieved many.
These include her photography, cooking, athletics, first aid, world friendships, animals and birds and masks badge.
The 11-year-old said she had also met many new people since joining the unit.
“I was pretty shy before and I did not have many friends. But now I have a whole heap,” she said.
Mother Rhonda Wilson is as excited about the award and said cubs had really changed her daughter.
Cub leader Akela, Glenda Dean, said she was proud of Jessica’s achievements and would be sad when she went off to scouts next term.
“She was a quiet little person when she started but she has really opened up and wants to get into everything. I am really excited that she got the award. I am really stoked to have a second one in our group,” she said.
To earn the award Jessica had to complete four achievement badges, a special activity badge as well as her Bronze, Silver and Gold Boomerang.
Ms Dean and cub leader Kaa, Trent Wursthorn, watched with delight as District Cub Scout Leader Trish Bradley presented the award last Tuesday.
More than 20 cubs also watched the presentation.
