THE Narre Warren Fire Brigade wants you.
The station has launched a recruitment campaign and is on the lookout for men and women aged 16 and over to help protect the local community.
Volunteers aged 16 and 17 need parental consent and Lieutenant Paul Hardy said the brigade attended a variety of callouts including house fires, grass fires and car accidents.
The Narre Warren Fire Brigade is an entirely volunteer-based brigade that has been serving the local community for the past 60 years.
It responds to between 400 and 500 calls a year and provides a 24-hour, seven-day service.
Lt Hardy said the brigade was particularly looking for members able to respond to day-time calls from Monday to Friday. No experience is necessary to join as all training is provided.
Mr Hardy said CFA volunteers receive nationally recognised and accredited training at no cost and there were many benefits to being a CFA volunteer.
He said volunteers provided valuable work and personal experience in the community and the role gave volunteers a strong sense of achievement and personal satisfaction.
During initial training volunteers will learn all the basic skills and safety re-quirements to be able to attend callouts. Once they have completed this, volunteers would be able to attend regular training with the brigade to maintain their skills and learn new ones.
For the first six months CFA volunteers are on probation. Brigade training sessions are held on Tuesday nights from 7.30 to 9.30pm with experienced trainers.
Lt Hardy said the CFA had bought land at the corner of Pound Road and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road with the hope of building a new fire station in the near future. Readers interested in becoming volunteer members should contact the CFA on 1800 232 636 or email volrecruit@cfa.vic.gov.au
