DOVETON came into the senior game with many injuries but were still able to match the in-form Hampton Park and held a 13-point lead at half-time. From here on it was a see-saw affair. The Doves had a lot of the play but were unable to capitalise in the second half, going down by three points.
Under 18s player Ryan Pearson played another great game proving that he is capable of senior footy along with James Arundale, who played an admirable first game. Clint Wilson battled hard in the ruck and around the ground keeping the undermanned Doves in the game. The Doves couldn’t find a major avenue to goal, David George, Michael Henry, Robbie Hughes and Clint Wilson all kicking two.

The Doves faced their biggest challenge for the year when they played the undefeated Hampton Park. They were hoping to remain undefeated and claim top spot but allowed Hampton Park too great a start and went down by 41 points.
The Doves didn’t score until midway through the second quarter but they kept their heads up and were competitive in the second half. Chris Rodriquez was best for the Doves, playing a solid game in defence, while Luke Downe played well up forward and when needed in the ruck. With a few players out the young Doves overcame Hampton Park with great ease winning by 124 points. The Doves were very strong in defence and allowed Hampton Park to score only three times all coming in the last quarter. The Doves were led by Matt Stapleton, who played a terrific game on the ball and up forward and finished with five goals in a best-on-ground performance. In defence Gavin Lees was strong, didn’t give his opponents an inch and was one of the main reasons for the big win. The forward line had many players in form, Daniel Zajac kicking four goals and Cam Bell two.
