SEVERAL local community groups had a hole lot of fun when they built doughnut-inspired Australian icons at Krispy Kreme in Fountain Gate recently.
The event was designed to help local not-for-profit groups raise much-needed funds for their various activities in society.
Groups were invited to the store to raise money for their cause by taking part in the inaugural Aussie Icon Building challenge.
Narre Warren Country Fire Authority, Casey North Community Information and Support Service, the Berwick Dog Club and the Splash Team were provided with 120 doughnuts with which to build their replicas of Australian icons.
Replicas of the Great Ocean Road, the Dog on the Tuckerbox, a lawn mower and the Sydney Harbour Bridge greeted judges who awarded all groups a financial prize.
Krispy Kreme marketing manager Mark Gilbert said the company was thrilled to be celebrating their first Australia Day as part of Casey.
“We wanted to make sure that we gave something back to the community,” Mr Gilbert said.
“The Aussie Icon Building challenge was a fun way we thought we could add to the celebration of Australia Day while also rewarding local community groups,” he said.
